What IVF did to my health

Let me start off by saying that it's not quite fair to blame IVF for this. But I've finally had my dentist appointment about my bleeding gums today. I had to wait quite a while to get an appointment which is a pain. It was in the middle of the working day but otherwise I would have had to wait even longer.

Anyway, yes, I suffer from pregnancy gingivitis and in addition got normal gingivitis, too. (Whatever the difference is.) Great.

Pregnancy gingivitis is quite common in pregnancy, so why do I blame IVF? Well, I had't been to the dentist for something like 1 1/2 years even though I used to go every 6 months. I have a very small mouth and the teeth are very tight together (I had quite a few removed as a child but still...) so gum decease is always a high risk.

But I needed all my 'dentist appointments' for those hundreds ad hundreds of hospital appointments. You need excuses, right? And you can get away with 4 dentist appointments a year, plus flat tyres, broken washing machine, flat car battery, gas service engineer etc. So I wasn't able to have real dentist appointments.

I'll have to go back tomorrow for a thorough cleaning, but the dentist said I might need several appointments to combat the gingivitis...

September is such a busy month at work for me and I already have 1 midwife and 2 hospital appointments over the next 8 days. It's the last thing I need on top of that. But it needs to get sorted. I had to neglect my teeth too long and untreated gingivitis has been linked to low birth weight and premature birth. I can't risk that.

At least I managed to get an appointment for my lunch hour tomorrow (even though I planned to work through lunch and eat at my desk).
